Jorge Moreira Gonçalves

Jorge Moreira Gonçalves is Professor of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto (U.Porto).

He graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the U. Porto, having a PhD in 1991, at the same University, in Pharmacology. As a postdoctoral fellow, he was a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at the Institut für Pharmakologie und Toxikologie, Universität Freiburg.

His scientific areas of interest are cellular communication, specializing in neurotransmission, immunity and cancer. His scientific production is published internationally in scientific articles and book chapters, published in the main scientific journals of his area of expertise. He is also an Investigator at Institute of Health Investigation and Innovation of the University of Porto (U. Porto).

He was director of the Laboratory of Pharmacology of the Faculty of Pharmacy of U.Porto, Director of this Faculty between 2002 and 2005 and Vice-Dean of University of Porto for Investigation, Innovation and Development (2006-2014). Within these functions, he was one of the leading heads of the creation of the Science and Technology Park of University of Porto as well as the implementation of the Pole of the Sea and Agrário de Vairão Campus. He was also responsible for the promotion of the student’s integration program in graduated projects of scientific investigation (IJUP).

He coordinated the initiative of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, "Noroeste Global" in 2014 and 2015, which merged the community of the innovation of North of Portugal in role of one strategy of knowledge transference.

He was awarded with the degree of Commander of the Order of Public Instruction (2005).
